    Biographical history

In 1865, Capt. Edward Stamp established the B.C. and Vancouver Island Spar, Lumber and Sawmill Co. on the south shore of Burrard Inlet. The company was sold in 1869 to Dickson, De Wolf and Co. of San Francisco for 20,000 dollars and was renamed the Hastings Sawmill Company in 1870. John Hendry and Associates, owners of the Royal City Planing Mills in New Westminster, bought the mill in 1890, renaming it the B.C. Mills, Timber and Trading Company the following year.
