Alexander Smith & Co. was established in the Junction Block on Lower Lonsdale shortly after the turn of the century, the co-owners being Alexander Smith and John Wylie Donaldson. The company was devoted to the buying and selling of real estate and the making of exchanges; and also conducted a department devoted to rentals. It was continued after Alexander Smith's death by his daughter, Isabella Paterson Smith, until 1948.
