Biographical history
B.C. General Development Syndicate Ltd. owned Stepney Ranch (which they took over in 1910 after the death of Arthur Stepney), timber lands north of Revelstoke, and some land in the Upper Columbia Valley. The syndicate operated the Stepney Ranch for the next 15 years until final subdivision after receivership.
Custodial history
Found by donor in the estate of Leighton Tripp, International Accountant. At this time, Tripp was apparently the accountant for the syndicate. However, it is not clear why these originals were not returned to the syndicate. No other CustodialHistory is available.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of the business records of the B.C. General Development Syndicate Ltd. from 1910-1922. Includes a report (1922) containing all legal and financial documents needed to transfer receivership of the Syndicate's holding to J.T. Mutrie. The report was compiled by Crease & Crease barristers, on behalf of Messrs Hoare, bankers of London and representatives of the syndicate's English shareholders. Anxious to receive repayment on loans and debentures made to the syndicate, the shareholders voted to put the syndicate into receivership. The documents within the report date from 1910-1922, and have been organized, numbered and bound together. Although the majority of the report focuses on the financial status of the Stepney Ranch (the principal holding of the syndicate), the report also contains mortgages, debentures, financial statements, and memos concerning many of their other properties and holdings. Fonds also includes a blueprint of the Stepney Ranch, with possible subdivisions marked in red.
