E.T. Bernier (1903-1985) was the son of Thomas (1874-1958) and Catherine (Cassie) (18841965). Thomas came to Powell River in 1925. Cassie, Edward and Mae (his wife 1905-2001) and Edwards children Vivian and Ray came in 1926. Edward and his father started a shoe repair store in Cranberry. Edward later opened a retail shoe store in Cranberry. E. Bernier was the secretary of the Citizens Committee in 1935 which was concerned with school affairs and he was active in the Annual Fall Fairs, starting the first one in Cranberry in 1931. He was the sheriff from 1936 1974 and was a member of the Liberal Party. Bernier worked for the Powell River Company during WW II and served with the local Duke of Connaughts Own Rifles. He was also active in the amalgamation of the villages of Cranberry, Westview, the Wildwood Water District and Powell River in 1955. Edward was selected by the Corporation of the District of Powell River to be on the local Court of Revision. He and Mae had six children; Vivian, Raymond, Leroy, Arnold, Yvonne and Elaine. He and Mae celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1983.
