The Bowen Island Heritage Preservation Association was founded in 1990 as a community-led response to the Greater Vancouver Regional District’s planned demolition of a number of the former Union Steamships Co. cottages. The purposes of the association are to promote tourism and public interest in the heritage sites of Bowen Island and to undertake public educational projects. The Association’s work focuses on the Davies Orchard in Snug Cove’s Crippen Park: this includes the restoration of ten heritage cottages and the caretaking of the orchard. The association administers a small museum as well as an information kiosk about the history of the Union Steamship Company.
Custodial history
The materials were received from the Bowen Island Historical Preservation Association and from its past president, Lois Meyers-Carter.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of administrative and operational records of the Bowen Island Historical Preservation Association, including its constitution, minutes (1990-2004), correspondence (1981-2001), as well as copies of printed and published materials and collected reference materials pertinent to BIHPA activities.
