The British Columbia Medical Association Auxiliary was officially constituted in 1982 as a non-profit organization to support programs of the BC Medical Association relating to community health endeavours and the concerns of physician families. The BCMA Auxiliary, originating from an earlier informal group known as the BCMA Spouses, limited its membership to spouses of physicians and medical students in the province. The Auxiliary encouraged the establishment of local chapters throughout BC, published a newsletter, and initiated or supported a number of projects, including an infant car seat safety program, educational resources on spousal and sexual abuse, professional development seminars, fundraising activities, and a scholarship program for children of BCMA members. In 1995, the BCMA Auxiliary was reconstituted as the BCMA Alliance, which continued to participate in activities relating to community health education, fundraising and support of physician families. In 2001, the organization was renamed BCMA Partners.
