    Biographical history

The organization of the Capilano Winter Club was commenced in 1952, with a Certificate of Incorporation granted from Victoria 14 March 1953, and registration under the Societies Act of British Columbia following shortly. Skating and curling were the initial focus, with hockey, tennis, swimming and other activities following in later years. By 27 July 1953 applications had been received from 321 families, and on 5 November 2.15 acres were acquired on Capilano Road north of Marine Drive, where a clubhouse and ice skating/curling rink was constructed. By September 1956 930 memberships had been received. In 1957 an Assembly Hall/gymnasium was built. The first tennis courts were built in 1958, with four new courts installed in 1962. In 1959 a regulation size pool, toddlers' pool and patio made the club a year round operation. It amalgamated with the North Shore Winter Club in 1977. The Capilano Winter Club was the first family winter club in B.C., and held the first summer skating school. It hosted the World Figure Skating Championships in 1960 and the North American Figure Skating Championships in 1963, besides a variety of other events.

    Custodial history
