        History

Alfred (Karlsson) Carson, born in Sweden in 1845, came to Quesnel in 1872. Carson worked at various jobs, including wood-splitting, ferryman, cattle driving, blacksmith, and housebuilding. He was also an investor in the Big Bonanza Mining Company. In addition, Carson for a brief period co-leased the Occidental Hotel in 1880, and by 1886 purchased property on the east bank of the Quesnel River to farm. Carson married Mary Ann Boyd, daughter of John Boyd of Cottonwood House, in 1886. The Carsons had four children.
