    Biographical history

The Sullivan Mine located at Kimberley, B.C., was originally claimed in 1892. The option on the claim was taken out in 1909 and purchased in 1913 by the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada, later known as Cominco Ltd. The mine was the largest lead and zinc mine in the world. Ore from the Sullivan Mine was smelted at Trail, B.C. In 1920, a concentration plant was established at Chapman Camp, B.C., a municipality later incorporated into the City of Kimberley. A fertilizer plant was also established at Kimberley.
