Biographical history
Originally built in 1909, Burrard Dry Docks marine railway was until the completion of the dry dock in 1925 Wallace Shipyards major installation for the repair of ships. Its capacity was 1500 tons. It continued operation until an accident in 1975, when Crandall Dry Dock was called in to do a report on the feasibility of its repair. While they indicated that repair was possible, this does not appear to have been carried out.
Custodial history
These records were acquired from Rollie Webb, former new construction superintendent of Burrard Dry Dock, on 18 February 2002, along with other material, mostly photographs, on Burrard Dry Dock.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of correspondence, reports, and drawings from Crandall Dry Dock pursuant to their inspection of the marine railway. Also included are a lines and grade drawing for the marine railway (March 1976) and a drawing for the outboard profile, main, forecastle and bridge decks for a twin screw tug for Kingcome Navigation Co. Ltd. (30 April 1965). The photographs document the 1975 condition of the marine railway.
