    Biographical history

The Administration Office of Crofton House School consists of the Head of School and the administrative support staff (Registrar, Director of Business Administration, Bursar, Archivist, External and Alumnae Relations, Grounds and Maintenance as well as secretarial and support staff). Essentially the office did not exist as a separate entity until 1990 when incoming Headmistress Barbara Emmerson created an administrative structure that differed from previous ones, where all support functions reported directly to the Headmistress. In 1995, Mrs. Emmerson left the school and Barbara M. Walker assumed the new post of Headmistress and changed its title to Head of School. Although the functions of financial management, secretarial support, and alumnae relations and fundraising certainly existed before 1990, it was not until then that the various activities were administratively grouped under one umbrella.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of records generated by six of the seven Headmistresses of Crofton House (Miss Jessie Gordon has no extant records): Sara E.G. MacDonald, Ellen K. Bryan, Muriel Bedford-Jones, Rosalind W. Addison, Barbara Emmerson, and Barbara M. Walker. Other series include correspondence and reports from the Registrar's office, an extensive thematic filing system from the Office Manager, and financial records from the Bursar's office such as the General Ledgers and budgets. The Office of the Registrar series also includes student records. The Administration Office fonds is a rich source of information about the everyday occurrences of the school at any given time.
