Administrative history

Davies and Company operated the general store on Bowen Island from ca 1867 to 1925, and at times also operated as a telegraph station and post office.

Custodial history

Lyle Davies had the Davies & Co. files in his home and had received them upon the death of his father William J. Davies in 1925. After Lyle Davies death, his friend, Mike Brereton brought the box of files to the Bowen Island Archives in 1982. Charlie MacNeill donated a cash book for the Davies Store to the Archives that includes financial records pertaining to William Arthur Edward (Ed) Davies' taxi service.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of legal and financial documents from the General Store; correspondence, predominantly legal; records created and received by William Joseph Davies in his capacity as postmaster, and financial records created by William A. Davies, owner of the Ed Davies Taxi Service.
