    Biographical history

Claims to the Endako Mine, originally named Stella Mine, were first staked in 1927. Full mining operations for molybdenum began, however, in 1965, by Endako Mines, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Placer Dome Inc. By 1980 mine production reached a maximum rate of 75000 tons per day, making Endako Mines the largest molybdenum mine in Canada and the second largest in the world. Due to the deterioration of global molybdenum markets, operations at Endako were suspended in 1982. Mining and concentrating on a more limited scale were renewed in 1986. Endako Mines has played a significant role in the development of the Fraser Lake area, including initiating steps resulting in the incorporation of the Village of Fraser Lake.
