    Administrative history

    The Engineering & Public Works Division is responsible for: the engineering design, and construction of the City's infrastructure and all City owned buildings; the delivery and maintenance of the local water supply; the maintenance of the sewer and drainage, dykes and irrigation system; the maintenance and development of current and long range engineering planning, the Geographic Information System (GIS), and drafting; the coordination of garbage, recycling collection, litter collection and environmental protection services on behalf of residents; the maintenance of the City’s road network; and providing, managing and operating a mixed fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment and an assortment of specialized work units for the City operations.

    Series consists of memoranda, correspondence, policy documents, reports to council and committees, promotional brochures and literature, and one map relating to the purchase of new equipment, and the replacement, upgrading or sale of existing equipment. The series includes files on the purchase and use of computer systems in the Engineering Department, a system for establishing signing authority for purchasing, and contracts and tenders policy. The series also includes records relating to a Municipal office space study, a report entitled, "Statement of Preferred Practice: Tender and Award of Public Construction Contracts," by the Public Construction Council of British Columbia, the development of a records management program and records of appraisal decisions made for Engineering Department records , and the investigation of the use of alternative fuels for Municipal vehicles.
