    Biographical history

The Curriculum Committee was established in 1963 to prepare departmental recommendations for new courses or course changes for submission to the Senate. Approved recommendations were incorporated into the UVic Calendar. Files were kept by the chair of the committee, and the Academic Registrar, who acted as secretary of the committee. Chairs of the committee were: Neil Swainson, 1966-67; Reginald H. Roy, 1967-69; Gerhart Friedmann, 1969-72; Izzud-Din Pal, 1973-75; and Michael Best, 1975-?

    Custodial history

Internal evidence from the records suggests that the early files were collected by Dr. Hagmeier, a committee member, and transferred to the Academic Registrar's Office, who transferred them to the Archives in 1985. The files of the early chairs were transferred to the Archives by Michael Best in 1975.

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of general committee files that contain an incomplete set of minutes, and final recommendations; and course files with departmental submissions. The chairs' files contain correspondence regarding contentious issues, and some departmental submission and minutes. For a complete understanding of the committee's work, both files need to be reviewed.
