        History

        The Greater Vancouver Regional District was created in 1967. It amalgamated functions previously carried out by a number of separate bodies: the Greater Vancouver Sewerage and Drainage District (1913-1971), the Greater Vancouver Water District (1926-1971) and the Lower Mainland Regional Planning Board (1949-1969). Since its inception, it has also been responsible for regional hospital planning and financing.
