Biographical history
The Grindrod Chic Chicks 4-H Sewing Club was organized in 1963 by Flora Sorenson. Louise Sutherland took over the role of leader, followed by Babs Scott, Liz Poor, Mabel Shykora, and Sandra Farynuk. Over 436 youth completed the 4-H program under the guidance of their leaders and assistant leaders. The members were taught public speaking, sewing, and modelling. They won countless trophies, prizes and awards while participating in 4-H competitions in Nanaimo, Vancouver and Toronto. The local club organized an annual dress revue and an awards banquet. Members participated in local events and did community service and fundraising. The Grindrod Chic Chicks folded in 1992 due to a lack of new leaders.
