        History

        The Heritage family resided in Victoria. John A. Heritage served as an engineer on the "Empress of India" before joining the B.C. Coast Steamship Service. Olive Heritage, the daughter of John and Mary Heritage was born in 1905. She received a B.A. from UBC and then taught school on Vancouver Island. She eventually became principal of Girl's Central School (Victoria) in 1931, until it was amalgamated with the Boy's Central School in 1937, at which time she became Vice-Principal. She served in that capacity until 1962, when she was appointed principal. She retired in 1969.
