Hu (Hughes) Wallis was actively involved with the Anglican Youth Movement (A.Y.M) in the Diocese of New Westminster and also with St. Philip's Parish, Vancouver. The Anglican Youth Movement operated as a unit under the wing of the Programme Committee. The purpose of the unit was to assist young people in promoting and coordinating the ministry of youth in the Diocese. As a member of the A.Y.M Council, Hu Wallis carried out a number of tasks: he provided informational, instructional and leadership resources to youth programs; he organized fund-raising campaigns; he tried to develop regional support by organizing and developing summer projects; he actively sought support from Synod to create the Provincial coordinator position. Hu Wallis felt that the A.Y.M activities should be coordinated at the Diocesan level by a person acting as a resource person to assist the A.Y.M. Council in appraising A.Y.M. programs and in developing new ministries.
