Some of these items have been arranged together into correlative groups of up to seven to form a presentation regarding the subject at hand. Accompanying materials include related textual documentation. Related items consists of one index plan of numbers and one field book and plan index that list the rolled maps as only part of a much larger collection, the remainder of which was not included in this accession.

Typical servicing requirements include sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermains, and road access. Files are organized by section number according to the legal land division system based on section, block and range. Records date predominantly from the establishment of new procedures for administering development applications in the late 1970s up to the transfer of development application administration activities from the Engineering Department to the Planning Department in the late 1980s.

A substantial portion of the series consists of general files dealing with sewerage topics and issues, including: the design and specifications of a sewerage program; studies on the quality and durability of sewage pipe and fittings; requests for the installation of a sanitary sewer system from developers, businesses, and individuals; and plans recording the proposed layout of sewerage systems. The series includes files of applications for sewer outfall permits issued by the Municipal Pollution Control Board, chlorination facilities at the Gilmore Park station, as well as files relating to sewerage in certain areas such as the Airport and Sea Island, Fraser sewerage area (Hamilton-Queensborough area), and Mitchell Island/Twigg Island. The role of the Engineering Department in monitoring industrial wastewater connections is also documented.

The series includes records relating to a joint water main between Delta and Richmond, the Tilbury main, the Sea Island-Lulu Island water main, and waterworks-related issues as part of the construction and maintenance of the Knight Street Bridge.

Topics and intiatives include: applications for water main connections; policy statements and rate tables regarding water and sewer rate charges; studies into the condition and status of the water supply; complaints from the public regarding damaged fire hydrants or water mains; reports on the types, specifications, and quality of materials to be used in municipal water works; records relating to drinking water quality and the GVRD water supply study; records of the Waterworks Coordination Committee; and reports on the condition of the municipal waterworks system. The series includes applications for waterworks services from developers and individuals and detailed plans for the provision of sanitary sewer and waterworks systems. The series also includes certificates of approval for proposed waterworks services from the Provincial Health Ministry, in response to required plans submitted by the Engineering Department. Some of the records also document the municipality's involvement with the Greater Vancouver Regional District, its Water Quality Technical Committee, and the Greater Vancouver Water District.

The records in this series deal with all aspects of storm drainage and flood control, and overlap with other series in the areas of culverts and dykes. The records in this series cover policy, programming, financing and operational aspects of drainage works, and include signed contracts for construction and maintenance of dykes, pumphouses, drainage channels and ditches. The series includes general files which cover a range of topics and intiatives, from measurement of rain fall to the placement of drainage works. In addition, the records document the involvement of the Engineering Department in the Fraser River Flood Control Program and include separate files for Mitchell Island, dyke improvement, local improvement initiatives. and improvements to Woodwards Slough. Includes records relating to the Drainage Coordination Committee, the Lower Mainland Municipal Association Dyking Committee, and the Agric-Food Regional Development Subsidiary Agreement (ARDSA). Also includes a detailed dyke inspection report of May 1988 with 174 photographs of dykes and dyke-related facilities.
