The Archives holds the personal papers of the late Dallas W. Smythe (see fonds F-16), the first chair of SFU's Department of Communication Studies. Thomas H. Guback was a doctoral student of Dallas Smythe at the University of Illinois and maintained a professional relationship with Smythe for many years. Guback recently retired as a professor of communications, media studies, and advertising at the University of Illinois. He also served as a consultant in the area of the motion picture industry, and writes and hosts a television program on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

The collection consists of correspondence from or about Dallas Smythe, articles written by Dallas Smythe, copies of memorial lectures about Smythe, and photographs of Smythe at work and with his family.

The collection consists of seven files.

Collection consists of digital copies of a complete run of The Pedestal, a feminist periodical published by the Vancouver Women's Caucus and edited by the Pedestal collective. The periodical referred to itself as a women's liberation newspaper and later as a lesbian-feminist newspaper; it published non-fiction, personal stories, poetry, reviews, letters to the editor, news of the women's movement, informational resources, a dream page and a calendar of events. It was distributed to individual subscribers, women's groups and sold by members at demonstrations and political events, and was available at bookstores and other locations around Vancouver. The Pedestal engaged in debates with members and readers over homosexuality, socialism and relationships with men, and addressed political issues such as abortion, childcare, education, anti-imperialism and patriarchy.

Fonds consists of records relating primarily to the academic and professional life of Bill Richards, and in part to his personal life. Activities, topics, and events documented include Richards’ course development and instruction; academic conference participation and presentations; research projects and partnerships; writing and publications; computer software development, implementation, communications, and analyses; grant writing and applications; employment; and his death and memorial. Records include correspondence, notes, course syllabi, program manuals and data sets, publications and reports, grant applications, conference programs and proceedings, software programs, and sound and moving image recordings.

The fonds consists of records relating to the editorial, business and community activities of Press Gang Publishers. Activities and events documented include the evolution of Press Gang's organizational structure, and the separation of the printing and publishing operations; administration; collective, staff, Board of Directors and committee meetings; financial management, and grant applications; the management of royalties and rights; editorial work including manuscript receipt and evaluation; the physical production of Press Gang books; the promotion and marketing or Press Gang titles; and liaison with other feminist and publishing organizations.

Record types includes correspondence and reports; meeting agendas, minutes and supporting papers; photographs; grant applications and financial statements; contracts and agreements; manuscripts; book reviews and promotional material; photographs; and published books.

The fonds of the Instructional Media Centre consists of records created and received in the course of carrying out one of its functions. The activity documented is taking photographs requested by other university departments. The types of documents include photographic contact sheets, prints, negatives and slides. Appendix A1, "How to Find Archival Photographs" is available in hard copy form.

Fonds also consists of moving images and accompanying material produced by the Instructional Media Centre and its predecessors and successors.

The fonds consists of records made or received by the TeleLearning Network's management office in the course of administering the Network's affairs.

Activities documented include Annual General Meetings and meetings of the Board of Directors and TeleLearning committees, Network financial administration and budgeting, communications, media relations and web presence, the holding of annual TeleLearning Conferences, NCE reporting, management of research projects, and promotion of TeleLearning spin-off companies.

Fonds consists of records created or received by the Peak Publications Society primarily in the course of publishing The Peak, the student newspaper of Simon Fraser University. Activities and topics documented include the establishment and organization of the Peak Publications Society; developing sources of funding; the production of the newspaper, including the taking of photographs required to illustrate stories published; the hiring and duties of Peak staff members; and other publishing ventures of the Peak Publications Society. Includes a complete run of The Peak newspaper from 1965 and other published material such as the Terminal City Express, The Dic (student course guide), and The Peak Handbook. Also includes certification of incorporation, constitution, agendas, minutes, financial records, correspondence, and other documents, as well as contact sheets, prints, negatives, and microfilm reels.

Fonds consists of records relating to Roberts's career at SFU. Includes correspondence, press releases, flyers, clippings, newsletters, publications, transcripts of speeches, notes, buttons, and cartoons and other artwork. Also includes a set of sound recordings made by Roberts while he was Director of the University News Service.

The fonds consists of records arising from Smythe's activities with the University of California, Berkeley; the U.S. Central Statistical Board; the U.S. Department of Labor (Wage and Hour Division); the U.S. Federal Communications Commission; his academic work; and from his various personal activities. Fonds includes correspondence, teaching materials, publications, research materials, reports, written testimony, reference material, and other records.

The fonds consists primarily of records relating to the business activities of Press Gang Printers; it also includes some records arising from the collective's participation in the British Columbia Federation of Women. Activities and events documented include incorporation, the evolution of Press Gang's organizational structure, and the separation of the printing and publishing operations; collective and committee meetings; administration and unionization; financial management, grant and loan applications, and fundraising; liaison with other organizations in the women's movement and in other social movements; production and press work; marketing and promotion; and the financial difficulties leading to the closure of Press Gang in 1993.

Fonds consists of records created, received and collected in the process of publishing Makara magazine. Records reflect general operation, correspondence, production, and advertising. Includes correspondence, notes, distribution lists, articles, clippings, surveys, manuscripts, lay-out roughs, illustrations, press releases, contracts, promotional material and notes.

The fonds consists of Mr. Dunning's family and business records; records accumulated as a member of various community organizations; and documents, manuscripts, and photographs resulting from Edgar's work for the Delta newspaper, the Optimist, and his interest in Delta community events and history. Family records include correspondence and legal records regarding the property on 48th Avenue and Delta Street, as well as financial and educational certificates. A large series of memorabilia includes invitations and other ephemera, which Edgar accumulated as publisher and reporter for the Optimist and as active community member. Business records are largely from the Optimist printing business, and include examples of print products such as invitations, programs, letterheads, tickets, municipal reports, etc., which were printed for local people and businesses of Delta. A small series of Optimist newspaper records include lists of subscribers from the 1940s. The fonds includes a sample of Edgar's writings for the Optimist on historical topics, plus a larger group of manuscripts that have been edited by him in his capacity as editor of the Optimist and as an interested and knowledgeable local historian. The fonds also consists of minutes of meetings, correspondence, reports, etc. accumulated by Edgar as a member of the Delta Community Band, various centennial committees, the Delta Historical and Museum Society, and other organizations. Edgar is a talented amateur photographer, and his photograph collection reflects his work as a reporter and his interest in the people and events of Delta. The Riverview Hospital Historical Society collection consists of the records collected and maintained by the Riverview Hospital Historical Society (RHHS). Through their museum and library, the RHHS acquired and stewarded records documenting the history of Riverview Hospital, the British Columbia School of Psychiatric Nursing, and the history of psychiatric care in British Columbia.

The collection consists of a range of documentary forms, including: reports, theses, newspaper clippings, newsletters, publications, correspondence, manuals, plans and drawings, directories, inventories, procedures, programmes, annuals, invitations, motion pictures, personal narratives, staff lists, minutes, study notes, scrapbooks, ephemera, and photographs depicting aspects of social and administrative life at the hospital and school.

The fonds consists of business correspondence of the Gazette Printing Company and other business records (including notices of assessment and accounts with the Workmen's Compensation Board, bills, and invoices), much of which relate to the operation of the Grand Forks Gazette newspaper. The Autobiography series consists of Archies autobiographical works, which document his service in World War I and his family life and career. It has been arranged into three sub-series: All in A Lifetime, My Life in the Army, and Travel. The Writing series consists of his published and unpublished work, and background material for it. The series shows his interest in making new generations of Victoria residents aware of their citys history and aware of World War I history. It has been arranged into two sub-series: Articles and Stories, and Broadcasts. Records include typed manuscripts, clippings of Archies published articles, photographs including photograph albums, diaries, scrapbooks, war medals, and ephemera.

The fonds consists of four primary series: Michel Butor research files, Jeanne Hyvrard research files, French feminist writings research files, and French lesbian novels research files. The Butor series consists of correspondence, research files, works of Waelti-Walters, and reference material such as articles and clippings. The Hyvrard series consists of Hyvrard manuscripts, correspondence, research files, literary criticism and translations of Hyvrard. The feminist writings and the French lesbian novels series consist of drafts, primary sources, secondary sources, research notes, correspondence, and bibliographies. All the series contains some teaching files and reference material.
