Fonds includes school certificates of Doris and Florence Bird and Doris Bird's historical accounts of sawmills in the Alberni area.

The coal mine whistle was blown every day in Nanaimo to announce shift changes and other mining related events. Includes a report on chain of title of various local mining companies and council minutes relating to Fred Taylor's role as negotiator of the whistle's return to Nanaimo.
