Minutes of meetings

Consists of the original minutes of the Delta Agricultural Society's board meetings and general meetings from 1888 to 1994. Includes names of elected officers, motions, some financial statements for the later years, etc.

Series consists of photographs of harness races, race track, grandstand and other facilities at Paterson Park, members of the Society, and horses, drivers and owners of horses who raced at Paterson Park.

Delta Heritage Inventory Survey - Phase One series

Series consists of records arising from the first phase of the Heritage Inventory Project conducted by the Delta Heritage Advisory Commission. The series is arranged into five subseries, each containing case files identified according to the function of the structure or area inventoried. These include: residential, religious, institutional, and commercial buildings, as well as conservation areas. Case files created in 1979 contain copies of Canadian Inventory of Historical Building forms, research materials such as copies of newspaper clippings and archival records, and photographs of the buildings. Subsequent files created in the later stage of the project (1982) are less comprehensive. The series also contains a subseries of administrative records such as Canadian Inventory of Historical Building forms, minutes, correspondence, and ephemeral material. A publication entitled "Delta Heritage Report" includes the Project's historical background, its purposes and methodologies, and the final inventory of heritage buildings and sites.

Correspondence

Series consists of circulars, letters, telegram and memos received by F. G. Bell in his capacity as general manager of Brunswick Cannery. Correspondence is about government regulations; policy and procedures, and operational inquiries and directives received from the head office of B.C. Packers Association; and inquiries from suppliers. Circulars from the Fraser River Canners' Association may have been received by Mr. Bell as President of the Anglo American Canning Co.

Francis G. Bell family records

Series consists of records belonging to Francis Griffin Bell and Dorothy Bell. Mr. Bell was manager of the Brunswick Cannery, Canoe Pass, 1902-1927(?) for the B.C. Packers Association. Prior to working as manager for the Association, Francis G. Bell was president of the Anglo-American Canning Co., which was bought by the Association in 1902. His daughter, Dorothy Bell, worked as a reporter beginning in 1915 for the Eburne Gazette, later in 1922 accepting a position on the editorial staff of McLean's Magazine.

Recognition - cards and certificates

Series consists of certificates of recognition awarded to Edgar Dunning for his work and volunteering in the Delta community, certificates and cards recognizing Edgar Dunning's 90th, 99th, 99.5th and 100th birthdays, and correspondence wishing Edgar Dunning a happy birthday.

Professional papers

Series consists of the field notes, theses, and reports created by Ernie Taylor in the course of his university education at the University of British Columbia, and work as a wildlife biologist and game manager in British Columbia. The series includes copies of Mr. Taylor's Bachelor of Arts thesis and Master of Arts thesis on pheasants in the Lower Fraser Valley, which were submitted to the Department of Zoology, UBC, in 1948 and 1950. The reports included in this series, many including his work done on pheasants, were written by Mr. Taylor as an employee with the B.C. Game Commission, 1950 to 1965. The series also includes a report on wildlife and recreation in Delta written by Mr. Taylor for the Canadian Wildlife Service in 1970.

Series consists of manuscripts and newsclippings pertaining to the history of the Kinsmen Club of Ladner and the Association of Kinsmen Clubs.

Research notes

Consists of research notes and supporting documents written and compiled by Freda Hayman while acting as a docent at the the Delta Museum and Archives. The fourteen files cover topics such as Delta pioneers, agriculture, Coast Salish and Tsawwassen peoples, fishing, churches, organizations, businesses, transportation, sports, farm names, and home and social life in Delta's history.

Series consists of inventory records providing a detailed list of J.H. Perry Department Store's goods with their estimated values.

Work diaries

Series consists of diaries written by Mr. Christopherson to record the daily total hours worked by himself and employees of the Boundary Bay plant, the amount of product processed, weather, and work done to manage the oyster beds. The diaries also record Mr. Christopherson's trips to other osyter operations at Comox, Pendrell Sounds, Ladysmith Harbour, among others.

Boat log books

Series consists of log books recording the daily operation of tug boats used in the B.C. Packers' oyster operation, mainly the M.V. East Delta, M.V. E.F.N., Togo No. 1, and M.V. Jervis Queen. Major contents include destination and time on each course, weather conditions and nature of work. The boats were largely used to tow scows loaded with oysters tot eh plant in Delta, and to position empty scows over the oyster beds. At low tide the empty scows would land near the beds to which the workers would walk and harvest the oysters. Full scows were then floated back to the plant. The "East Delta" was used by Mr. Christoperhson to travel to other oyster operations, and became a second home for John and Grace after the closure of the plant in Boundary Bay.

Pendrell Sound seed operation records

Series consists of memos and reports relating to the proposed purposes and cost estimation for the Pendrell Sound seed operation project, and Mr. Christopherson's diary of work done and costs incurred for the 1971 to 1974 seasons.

Records of committees planning centenary celebrations

Series consists of the records received by Edgar Dunning as a member of the executive of the Delta Centennial (1979) Committee, which planned the projects and celebrations for the District Municipality of Delta centenary in 1979; the Local Centennial Celebration Committee which planned activities to mark Canada's 100th Birthday in 1967; and the Centennial '71 Committee, which was the local planning committee for the British Columbia Centennial in 1971. Records include meeting agendas and minutes, memoranda, correspondence, and promotional material.

Personnel records

The series consists of personnel records and include employee documentation in time cards, invoices and payroll ledgers.

The series consists of Seine Boats records which contain a log book belonging to G. Lacey in 1971, invoices and receipts pertaining to charges.

Financial records

The series consists of order books and daybooks relating to R.J.Stokes for the Delta Meat Market, and day books, order books and receipt books from the Stokes and Cullis Meat Market.

John William Fraser records

The series consists of receipts and invoices received by J.W. Fraser, including a three page invoice from Lanning, Fawcett and Wilson, 1917, that lists groceries, women's and men's clothing items, and cheesecloth and wallpaper used for covering walls inside homes. The records also include invoices for taxes from Delta Municipality, and Delta Dyking and Drainage Scheme, on Lots 158 to 161, dated November 15, 1909.

Shorthand notes

Series consists of historical notes written by T. Ellis Ladner's father, Thomas Ladner, in shorthand format. Series documents the social and economic life of the early settlements in Delta. Series includes a transcript of the shorthand notes.

Publication materials

Series consists of materials which Edna Ladner collected and edited preparing for the publication of her father's book, Above the Sand Heads. Series also includes an unpublished work of T. Ellis Ladner, recorded by Edna Ladner. The title of this unpublished work is On and By the River: Early Days in British Columbia.
