Robertson (family)Fonds consists of three plans indicating the workings of the Louden-Wakelem slopes and Carruthers slopes of Wellington #9 mine from 1949 until 1964. The latest is incomplete but does include a manuscript schematic drawing of Nanaimo mine locations. Copies of Mr. Carruthers miner's certificates, copies of newspaper articles written about Mr. Carruthers upon his retirement and his textbooks on mining are also included. A number of these are from the International Correspondence School (ICS). Also included are two Special Rules booklets that outline the rules and regulations of Western Fuel Company mines in Nanaimo and descriptions of various mine jobs (shotlighter, bratticemen, loaders etc.).

Freeman (family)Collection consists of correspondence and notes, compiled by Fred Taylor, related to the City of Nanaimo's acquisition of an old steam coal mine whistle from Air Chime Manufacturing Company. The coal mine whistle was blown every day in Nanaimo to announce shift changes and other mining related events. Includes a report on chain of title of various local mining companies and council minutes relating to Fred Taylor's role as negotiator of the whistle's return to Nanaimo. Also includes two photographs of Fred Taylor and Mayor Gary Korpan with whistle.
Fonds consists of a certificate of competency for mine rescue work (1916) and a certificate of competency for 2nd class (1916), which allowed Francis John to work as an Overman in British Columbia under the provisions of the Coal Mines Regulations Act.
