Series consists of documents relating to the proposed Horticulture Centre of the Pacific project and includes general descriptions and briefs, schedule diagrams, and preliminary feasibility study results. Series includes detailed design competition submission requirements and results, as well as conceptual information on specific components of the project: Committee, Site, Pavilions, Arboretum, and Hall.

Council minutes

Series consists of the minutes of the District of Saanich council from the incorporation of the Municipality to 1969. Series includes minutes from the inaugural council meeting in 1906.

Administrative Records

Series consists of minutes, 1951-1959; administrative notes, 1962-1964; lists of children attending park programs, 1963-64; and lists of parent volunteers, 1962-1966.

Constitution & by-laws

Series consists of the constitution and by-laws of the Douglas Co-operative Commonwealth Federation Hall Society, 1950. Series includes a draft constitution of the Esquimalt-Saanich Riding New Democratic Party Association.


Series consists of publications relating to the CCF/NDP, and includes articles published by the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation. Contents and topics include addresses by party leaders, membership, party history and general information, and labour movements. Series includes a signed book by former Saanich M.P. Frank Snowsell on M.P. Owen L. Jones, 1988.


Series consists of photographs related to the CCF and include party leaders and MPs; local candidates; gatherings at the Douglas CCF Hall; the CCF summer camp on Gabriola Island; and campaigning activities. Series consists of an undated video cassette labeled “Megadreams NDP”; and a boxed record titled Tommy Douglas containing selections from Mr. Douglas’ speeches, anecdotes and recitations with introduction and commentary by Pierre Burton, 1971.


Series consists of the minutes of the Saanich CCF Club, Local no. 1. Topics include club business, the building of the Douglas Street hall, financial statements, society bylaws and collaboration with the club’s Women’s Committee. Series includes special reports; executive meeting minutes; and the proceedings of the Sixth Annual Convention of the New Democratic Party of British Columbia, 1967. Series also includes minutes from the club’s inaugural meeting, 1933.

Constitution & by-laws

Series consists of the constitution and by-laws of the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific as filed with the Registrar of Companies under the Societies Act, 1979. Series includes the names and signatures of the witnesses for the society.


Series consists of letters written in support of establishing a recycling program in Saanich; correspondence to and from outside organizations and communities with existing recycling programs; and letters to the editor from Audrey Johnson on various environmental topics. Series also includes correspondence and supporting documents from Victoria MLA Robin Blencoe regarding sewage treatment in Greater Victoria.

Committee minutes

Series consists of the minutes of various Saanich committees, 1956 to 1969 (8 volumes): Fire and Water; Health & Social Welfare; Industrial Development; Light, Power and Transportation; Public Works; Sewer and Drainage; Lands & Building; Municipal Parks; Finance; Municipal Hall; Court of Revision; Special Committees; and others. Series includes 3 volumes of indexes for committee minutes, 1959 to 1978.


Series consists of the minutes of the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific (initially called the Horticulture Development Committee) outlining all Society business from the conceptual stages of the project onwards. Series includes agendas, meeting notices, and lists of Directors.

Presentation to Council

Series consists of “exhibits” numbered 1 through 25 presented in support of the recycling proposal prepared by the Citizens’ Task Force on Recycling. Material includes correspondence, surveys, reports, ephemera, news clippings, publicity and other material. Series includes a review of the activities of the Citizens’ Task Force on Recycling, as well as draft and final copies of the committee’s report.

Legal documents

Series consists of various legal agreements relating directly to the Douglas CCF Hall Society and its property, and includes insurance policies, indentures, and other similar documents. Series includes agreements to appoint an exclusive agent for the sale of the property, 1962-3.


Series consists of scrapbook pages recording the organization's activities at Playfair Park in Saanich, 1948-1956; and scrapbook pages recording the group's activities at Reynolds Park in Saanich, 1956.

Health Committee minutes

Series consists of the minutes of the Health Committee, 1915-1925. The first volume (1915-1920) includes a history of the local branch of the Victorian Order of District Nurse[s] for Saanich, as well as the minutes of their first meeting. Some minutes are taken by Advisory Board Member Mrs. Maude Hall. The second volume (1920-1925) includes statistical and financial reports, as well as minutes of the meetings of the Board of Management, Saanich War Memorial Health Centre.

Financial records

Series consists of club annual financial statements, 1956-1963; ledgers, including some lists of membership dues, 1944-1974; receipts and invoices, 1961-1976; and annual tax notices, 1956-1964.


Series consists of a Saanich refuse collection schedule, burning permit, Fire Department notice, and various environmental brochures. Series includes a Civic Banquet invitation from Mayor Couvelier and Council.


Series consists of general correspondence written to and from the Douglas CCF/NDP Society. Topics include club business; suppliers; hall rentals, including to the Saanich Municipal Employees’ Association; board appointments and resignations; the Esquimalt-Saanich New Party campaign of 1961-2; the provincial CCF/NDP office; and financial and insurance matters. A significant amount of correspondence relates to the sale of the group’s property, 1963. Series includes 2 plans showing a sewer easement on the property, 1960.
