Sermons

Series consists of sermons in manuscript format and in published format (i.e. copied for distribution).

Vital records

Series includes Baptismal records, 1930-1960; Burial records, 1939-1957; and Marriage records, 1940-1958, including some correspondence.

Writings

Series consists of a draft of Stott’s semi-fictional account of life in the Cariboo in the early 20th century.

Frank and Marguerite Fidler correspondence and other material

Series consists of records relating to the Rev. Frank Fidler’s ministry within the United Church of Canada, including his service as Boys’ Work Secretary for BC Conference (1928-1931); pastoral work at Bloor Street United Church in Toronto (1934-1940) and at Glebe United Church in Ottawa (1940-1949); and work at General Council as Secretary of the Christian Education Department (1949-1971). Also included are records relating to Marguerite Fidler’s involvement with the Woman’s Missionary Society. Record types include correspondence, research papers, conference planning materials, and publications.

Records of the President, BC Conference

Series consists of records relating to McCrindle’s attendance at ceremonies, travel within the Conference, planning meetings, and liaison with various church officials and secular organizations. Records include correspondence, itineraries, meeting notes, orders of service, and news clippings.

Sermons

Series consists of records relating to Fong Dickman’s preaching at churches he served between 1898 and 1946. Records include handwritten sermons in traditional Chinese, some dated 1936.

Teaching and worship materials

Series consists of records relating to Harrison’s teaching and worship leadership activities at the Vancouver School of Theology. Includes lecture notes, sermons, and orders of service.

Student notes

Series consists of a notebook relating to a course on New Testament criticism, which he was likely enrolled in at Knox College, Toronto.

Project records

Series consists of records relating primarily to Booth’s consulting work after retirement. Includes scripts, timecode descriptions, project schedules, speeches, reports, correspondence, and maps.

Woman's Missionary Society correspondence

Series consists of records relating primarily to McCargar’s liaison with the head office of the Woman’s Missionary Society (WMS) of The United Church of Canada. Also included are records relating to her association with the WMS at the Chinese United Church in Vancouver and other congregations. Documents include correspondence, reports, speaking notes, worship preparation notes, financial records, mailing lists, course outline, order of worship, poetry, and greeting cards from special events.

Photographs

Series consists of photographs relating to Vera Bell's work as nurse at Wrinch Memorial Hospital in Hazelton (1956-1961) and as matron at Queen Charlotte Islands Hospital (1961-1963).

Sermons

Series consists of records relating to Searcy’s preaching at Crescent United Church (Surrey, BC), South Arm United Church (Richmond, BC), and University Hill Congregation (Vancouver, BC). Records include typescript sermons.

BC Conference photographs and other material

Series consists of records relating to Collins’ productions for the United Church in British Columbia. Includes slides and script for a BC Conference production, “Take Off Your Shoes,” which was shown as part of the 1974 ordination service. Also includes photographs of Vancouver area churches, taken during Collins’ production of “These Earthen Vessels” for Vancouver-Burrard Presbytery. Photographs of various churches and related buildings, and a recording of the dedication of Skidegate United Church, round out the content of the series.

Family correspondence and other materials

Series consists of records relating to Lydia Gruchy’s family correspondence throughout her life and after her death. Documents include education certificates and diplomas, photographs of the Gruchy family, news articles about Lydia Gruchy, the will of her father Charles Gruchy, family records, and letters of personal correspondence.

Frank and Marguerite Fidler photographs

Series consists of photographs relating to Frank Fidler’s trip from Manitoba to British Columbia, and work within BC Conference as Boys’ Work Secretary (1928-1932). Series also includes photographs relating to Fidler’s work at General Council as Secretary of the Christian Education Department.

Marine mission records

Series includes logs of the Iwyll, Thomas Crosby III and IV, and the Melvin Swartout I, the latter including related reports, 1919-1948: Invoices and correspondence relating to the construction of the Thomas Crosby III, 1926-1928; West Coast Missions correspondence, 1926-1934; and a Master's certificate, 1927.

Lectures and addresses

Series consists of records relating to Searcy’s public presentations in various settings, primarily about congregational ministry, to lay and clergy leaders of the wider church. Records include scripts and handwritten notes.

Training materials

Series consists of records relating to Booth’s teaching in the pastoral setting, at Selkirk College, and in the field of broadcasting. Includes study plans, lecture notes, workshop notes, reports, instructions, diagrams, and reference material.

Publications and manuscripts

Series consists of records relating to publications such as books, essays and articles written both by and about Rev. Lydia Gruchy including the graduation thesis of Lydia Gruchy, multiple articles and biographies, interviews, and a school yearbook.

Records relating to the Thomas Crosby Fund

Series consists of records relating to the establishment of a fund for ministry to isolated Indigenous communities the northwest coast. Records include report and recommendation of the Central Mainland Marine Mission Endowment Fund Committee, correspondence and appeals, excerpts from Conference Executive minutes, and terms of reference for the Thomas Crosby Fund.

Correspondence

Series consists of copies of outgoing correspondence to clergy, lay people, government officials, academics, and others.

Conference and General Council leadership records

Series consists of records relating to Harrison’s work for The United Church of Canada as BC Conference President and as a member of General Council committees and task groups. Includes reports, correspondence, and speaking notes.

Boy Scout and Cub camp photographs

Series consists of records relating to Collins’ Boy Scout and Cub leadership. Includes slides of the Ryerson Scout Troop and Cub Pack camping expeditions at Camp Byng, Roberts Creek (1947-1951); Coquitlam Camporee (1948); Abbotsford trail rides at Spruce Lake in the Chilcotin (1959-1960); and the Haney Scout and Cub camps at Camp Byng and Manning Park, and trail rides in Bridge River country (1965-1973).
