Zoning maps

Series consists of maps created by the Planning Department between 1956 and 1987. Maps show zoning classifications by block, range and section, or zoning designations throughout Richmond. Includes originals and updated component information sheets. Most maps indicate plan and lot numbers, and some show lot dimensions. Legends explaining most zoning classification symbols accompany some of the maps

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, and maps relating to zoning. A substantial portion of the series consists of zoning - general files for the period 1931 to 1971. Also included are records relating to zoning for particular areas, e.g., Bridgeport area, specific instance files, e.g., Zoning of Brighouse and B.C. Turf property, and zoning related issues, e.g., keeping animals in residential areas. Series also includes files relating to the Board of Variance, rezoning and special use permit applications, and zoning bylaws. Ongoing relations and negotiations between the municipality and other levels of government are documented.

Series consists of memoranda, zoning information plans/maps, copies of bylaws, correspondence, and plans relating to the role of the Planning Department in administering zoning bylaw regulations. The records document the establishment of zoning generally, and for specific purposes, e.g., churches, roadside stands and liquor establishments; the establishment and development of zoning bylaws and specific zoning districts and areas, e.g., agricultural, residential, industrial, commercial; and the operations and functions of the Board of Variance.

Series consists of yearbooks created by the New Westminster Local Council of Women. The year books were released annually, and recorded the history of the council, past presidents, current officers, affiliated societies, life members, reports from the president, secretary and standing committees, financial statements, and the minutes of the annual meeting. The year books also contain advertisements from businesses in New Westminster.

Writings, lectures, and presentations

Series consists of records relating to Clifford’s academic writings for journals, including original research and book reviews. Series also consists of records relating to lectures and presentations at The University of Chicago Divinity School, The University of British Columbia, and at various academic and church events. Records include lecture notes, copies of articles and reviews, and correspondence.


Series consists of a draft of Stott’s semi-fictional account of life in the Cariboo in the early 20th century.


Series consists of materials pertaining to Dragu’s work as a writer of poetry, fiction, non-fiction (including personal essays), and chapbooks, as well as some of her drawings. These materials include writing drafts, reviews of her books, copies of pieces written for various publications, press releases and publicity related to her books, and a large number of chapbooks (which feature a mix of creative writing, drawings, and collage). There are also drawings, including comic strips, made by Dragu.

The series consists of records related to Brown’s role as a writer, lecturer, and broadcaster. This series includes broadcast scripts, manuscripts, poetry, and published works.

Works on paper

Series consists of 40 works on paper. The bulk of these are hand coloured prints (some signed and numbered) but rarely include dates. Series includes pen and ink drawings, paintings and notably, a pencil portrait of a soldier created by the artist when he was a prisoner of war in 1945.

Works of other writers

Series documents Stanley’s interactions with other writers and their work. Includes copies of other writers’ work sent to Stanley, Stanley’s suggestions, as well as published articles about the writers themselves and their work. Series includes manuscripts, typescripts, posters, pamphlets, and newspaper cuttings.

Work diaries

Series consists of diaries written by Mr. Christopherson to record the daily total hours worked by himself and employees of the Boundary Bay plant, the amount of product processed, weather, and work done to manage the oyster beds. The diaries also record Mr. Christopherson's trips to other osyter operations at Comox, Pendrell Sounds, Ladysmith Harbour, among others.

Women's issues

The series consists of records related to Brown’s ardent belief in feminism and gender equality. The bulk of the series is comprised of correspondence that Brown authored as a member of the Voice of Women organization.

Woman's Missionary Society correspondence

Series consists of records relating primarily to McCargar’s liaison with the head office of the Woman’s Missionary Society (WMS) of The United Church of Canada. Also included are records relating to her association with the WMS at the Chinese United Church in Vancouver and other congregations. Documents include correspondence, reports, speaking notes, worship preparation notes, financial records, mailing lists, course outline, order of worship, poetry, and greeting cards from special events.


Series consists of records that pertain to the Dominion Trust Co.’s role as a trustee and/or executor of wills. Individuals deposited their wills with this company for safe-keeping. Series contains one box of wills.


Series consists of records that pertain to the Westminster Trust Co.’s function as trustee and/or executor of wills. Individuals deposited their wills with the Company for safe-keeping. These wills were placed in Westminster Trust Co. envelopes and then sealed. Series contains three boxes of wills.

Series consists of records and photographs relating to Judge William Ferry's life and career. Includes school records from Prince George Public School and the University of British Columbia, military photographs, and records, certificates and photographs relating to his his judicial career.

Weeds, mosquito spraying

Series consists of correspondence, memoranda, copies of minutes, lists, staff and consultant reports relating to the noxious weed and pest control programs of the municipality. The series includes lists compiled to document the location of weeds, as well as copies of minutes of the Public Works and Services Committee dealing with related issues. The series also includes files with complaints from the public relating to nuisance trees and rocks on municipal property, and separate files for Eurasian water milfoil testing and elimination.

Waterworks atlas

The Waterworks atlas consists of 132 detailed contiguous area maps depicting water lines, sewers, pumphouses and other waterworks facilities in Richmond. The maps also depict the placement and orientation of roads and buildings (somtimes including street addresses) and provide some information linking certain public works projects with bylaws.
