Vilcsek family fonds

Collection consists primarily of records generated or used during the period of the Second World War by the Vilcsek family in Budapest, Hungary. These include vital statistics and personal records of the Vilcsek family, photographs, and postcards mailed to the family from Ernő Vilcsek while he was in a labour camp in Hungary. Collection also consists of artworks, several on the theme of the Holocaust, created by Eva Kero after her immigration to Vancouver, BC.

Also included are some shots of Bangkok scenes, houseboats, and Europeans visiting the photographer's house. The hand coloured copperplates are of Switzerland.

Fonds has been arranged into eight Series. Each series has been broken down by subject and filed chronologically, either by date or alphabetically. The fonds reflect the material kept and collected by Pete Casorso. The records date from 1885 - 1997, but are predominantly from 1922 - 1987, the year after his death. The fonds focuses on the business and financial records kept by Pete Casorso. The files represent his business interests whether it is Mountview Sawmills Ltd. Pioneer Ranch, Casorso Brothers Ltd. and the many properties he owned or co-owned, mining interests (especially Lexington Mines Ltd. and Notre Dames Des Mines). Also included are records relating to insurance and legal indentures, personal records such as correspondence. Many of the records are handwritten and offer a glimpse into the life and times of Pete Casorso, Kelowna pioneer, farmer and businessman. on contents. Collection consists of photographs. Subjects of images include meetings of Diocesan and General Synod; consecration of bishops; various clergy and other individuals; parish events and activities; Church Army; Sunday School van; church camps and camping; early scenes of the building of Prince Rupert including street and harbour scenes, construction of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad; steamers, fishing boats and mission ships; totem poles; native people and villages; settlers; scenes from various places across the Diocese; exteriors and interiors of church buildings in the Diocese as well as in Alaska and Yukon; the Alaska Highway. Photographic holdings have been described at this point as a collection even though provenance of some items are identifiable. A sizeable part of early photographs (1908-1910) are from Rev. Edward Penard Laycock while he was a priest in the Diocese, particularly early scenes of Prince Rupert and at Lakalzap (Greenville) and Atlin where he served. Other photographs have as their source Bishops Rix, Gibson, Watts and Hambidge, the Caledonia Times, the "Northern Cross" mission ship, and the Synod Office.

The fonds consists of correspondence of Flora Burns and other family members, including letters from Louisa Blum, Pearl Craigie, Mrs. Morgan Richards, and the Warburg family, and correspondence between Flora Burns and Sister Mary Theodore, Sister's of St. Ann's, Victoria; photograph of Flora Burns; clippings; and books of poems by Edward Francis Harris and psalms. There is also a signed letter from Anne Harvie Ross Foster, (Mrs W. Garland Foster) 1875-, (now Ann Hanley) to Flora Hamilton Burns together with a typed carbon reply from Miss Burns, in which she talks about "The Mohawk Princess".
