The fonds consists of records documenting the administration of the project as well as reference files, oral histories, and a collection of historical photographs acquired during the course of the project. Records document the growth and development of schools in the Nanaimo-Ladysmith area and the recollections of former teachers and administrators in the school system. The fonds is arranged in four series: Project Administration (1987-1989), Reference (1939-1989), Oral history (1987-1989), and Photographs (ca. 1900-1979).

Planta, Bureau of Statistics Returns from Nanaimo, Assessment Rolls, 1895 & 1896, correspondence dated Jan 9, 1900, Wellington, from Theo Bryant re: nomination of E & N Railroad Conductor, J. W. Coburn (resident of Victoria) as Mayor of Nanaimo due to absence of any other nominees and correspondence to Col. Hon. James Baker (Provincial Secretary, Bureau of Statistics, Victoria) from R. E. Kenny, including correspondence; family photographs and documents, an autograph album (1886), booklet of favourite quotations, a diary, drafts and manuscripts of historical writings including "Notes on Early Days in Nanaimo", "Some of Nanaimo's Early Buildings" transcripts of Cornelius Bryant's journal and letters, numerous articles written by Beth Greenwood and a catalogue of her collection of Indian artifacts. Fonds also includes six scrapbooks, primarily of clippings of historical events but also including one of seaweed specimens and one of dried flowers.

The drawings were created by Hofman for the Heritage Commission's publication Columns, Cornices and Coal (1998).
