Part of Vancouver Art Gallery Association fonds

The Exhibitions series consists of records created and received as a result of exhibitions held at the Vancouver Art Gallery during the period 1931-2015, as well as exhibitions cancelled during this period. The types of exhibitions shown at the VAG during this period vary widely in nature and include painting, sculpture and installation shows, as well as performances and video programs. The resulting records are largely textual in form and include correspondence, memos, art and artist lists, application forms, installation instructions, contracts, promotional materials, invitations, condition reports, loan agreement forms, and newspaper clippings. Some audio and visual material, including photographs, installation plans, cassette tapes, and magnetic tapes, are also present.

The series has been arranged and partially described up to 2002 and is comprised of 2365 files spanning 76 boxes. The files up to 1971 are arranged by exhibition number, but as this numbering system was discontinued in 1972, all files beyond this point are arranged chronologically by exhibition opening dates. The original order of items within files has been maintained. The titles of all files are based upon the exhibition titles.
