Administrative history

The young people's group known as Kairos was established within The United Church of Canada in 1965. Although it was technically a new entity, it had its origins in the Young People's Union (YPU) and was essentially a reorganization of the YPU, eliminating the presbytery level executive. Young people’s work continued into the 1970s, but BC Conference Kairos dissolved in the late 1960s. Immediately after church union (1925), work was undertaken by the United Church to form YPUs across Canada. In 1932, YPUs in B.C. were organized into a BC Conference. In 1965, the YPU was reorganized as Kairos and presbytery level executives were disbanded.

Administrative history

The United Church of Canada formed Young Peoples Unions (YPUs) across Canada, shortly after church union (1925). In 1932, YPUs in B.C. were organized into a BC Conference. The Conference and its presbyteries had their own executives. At the local level, many congregations had YPUs and Young People’s Societies (until 1935). In 1965, the YPU was reorganized as Kairos and presbytery level executives were disbanded.
