Biographical history
The music club was formed in April 1950 by a group of local musicians. The purpose was to allow each member to perform on a regular basis and to provide a program for the membership to enjoy. the programs were generally of a chamber music type and were held in members homes. The 1st meeting was attended by Allan(Vice President) & Adeline Anderson, George(President) & Betty(Social) Lincoln, Mrs. Frank Green, Wiley Grant(Secretary/Treasurer), Lorraine Eklund, Mrs. W. Speer, Rev. J. Maunsell, Rev. C.O. Richmond, J. Reed and Sid Scholey. Guest artists were invited to perform several times a year. Fees were a one dollar a year and the meetings were held on the 3rd Monday of each month. Mrs. Frank Green was Honorary President. Piano, strings and vocals were predominant and a string quartet was formed. the 1st guest artist was pianist, Elnora Haimberger. The music club rarely performed in public, although individuals were free to do so. It was originally called the Lake Cowichan Musical Club. Membership has fluctuated over the years and the club is still in existence.(1997)
