        History

Robert, Jack and Alexander (Sandy) Laughton were brothers who emigrated to Canada from the Orkney Islands at Scotland in 1892. Jack Laughton purchased the Lardeau Hotel in Ferguson in 1899 from W. Holmes. The Lardeau Hotel was operated by the Laughton family for several decades. Robert Laughton moved to Revelstoke and purchased the Victoria Hotel circa 1910. Robert had three children: Stewart, Robert and Bella. Bella died in a boating accident in 1920. When Robert purchased the Selkirk Hotel, Jack came from Ferguson to run the Victoria Hotel, leaving Sandy to manage the Lardeau Hotel in Ferguson. Jack Laughton was also involved in the management of the Union Hotel in Revelstoke.
