Biographical history
In 1995 Archeologist Mary Quirolo received an Heritage Investigation Permit, permit number: 1995-252, from the Archeology Branch of the Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture in British Columbia to conduct an archeological impact assessment, monitoring, and systematic data recovery of the proposed location of the Greater Vancouver Regional Districts (GVRD) development of the Heritage Park and Fort-to-Fort Trail Complex that was being created at and near the site of the original Fort Langley (1837-1839) and Derby Townsite (1858-1859). The site number, as designated by the provincial government, for the area is DHRP37. While an earlier excavation of the area had been undertaken around 1983, this excavation occurred between 1995-1996. The GVRD hired Mary Quirolo to oversee the project and submit a final report at its conclusion. In 1996, GVRD Parks officially opened the Heritage Area of Derby Reach Regional Park and the western section of the Fort-to-Fort Trail within the Park.
