        History

        James McMahon was born in Ontario, November 12, 1859. His family homesteaded in Manitoba in 1876. In 1884 McMahon worked for the C.P.R. on the mainline to Field, B.C., then he returned to Manitoba to join the Royal Grenadiers during the Riel Rebellion. In 1888 McMahon moved to Farwell (Revelstoke), B.C., where he worked as a blacksmith in lumber mills, timber camps, mining camps. In 1904 he moved to Enderby, where he was foreman to the planer mill for Kamloops Lumber Co. He operated McMahon Blacksmith Shop 1905 to 1919, and McMahon and Sons Garage from 1919 to 1933. James McMahon travelled to northern B.C. and the United States while he was prospecting and trapping. McMahon married Elizabeth in Revelstoke before 1895. They had four children: George Ernest (Enie), David John (Jack), Edna and James. James McMahon passed away in Enderby in 1944.
