Biographical history
John Muir (1849-1939) was born in Scotland. He came to Canada in 1873 and farmed in the Deloraine area of Manitoba. In 1918 John retired to Richmond, B.C. where he remained until the time of his death in 1939. John continued to hold the land in Deloraine, Manitoba, earning income from the farms through share cropping and interest on mortgages. He also acquired an interest in the Lulu Island Lumber Co. and properties in Vancouver and Ladner. He had 3 daughters: Mrs. Jane Andrew, Mrs. J. P. Richardson, and Miss Agnes Muir; and two sons: Andrew Muir and John Muir. Andrew Muir (1890-1977) married Eva Elizabeth Follis (1900-1983) in 1922 and they resided in Ladner. Andrew was a well known businessman in Ladner, starting the Delta Garage after his four year service in WWI, and in 1929, becoming the proprietor of the B.C. Liquor store in Ladner. Both Andrew and Eva were active in the community. Eva Muir was a member of the Delta Branch Canadian Red Cross Society, Ladner United Church, and the Dugout Committee, which provided a recreation club for troops at the Boundary Bay airport during WWII. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Fraser Chapter No. 30 and the Chillukthan Rebekah Lodge No. 57. Eva and Andrew Muir had one daughter, Mrs. Norma Graham.
