    Administrative history

Indian church was erected in Nanaimo, B.C., in the late 19th century (ca. 1870). The Wesleyan Methodist Church was built for the people of the Snenymo Nation at the southern end of Nanaimo on the Indian Reserve. The building was destroyed by fire in later years, and replaced by an edifice, which was also destroyed by fire. Rev. Cornelius Bryant was the first teacher and missionary to the Snenymo; he began the mission before the church was built. In 1963, the Indian Mission C.G.I.T. amalgamated with members from South Wellington and Chase River C.G.I.T.
