Biographical history
In June 1953, Inga Williams of Omak, a representative of Community Concerts Inc. of New York and Los Angeles, came to Vernon to try to sell the idea of forming a community concert association here. A public meeting was held later that month with 46 in attendance. It was explained that community concerts hold an annual campaign to sell memberships, then engage the artists according to the money in the bank. The idea was unanimously approved, and officers and directors elected. The membership campaign began that fall and 1348 people signed up. In 1954, the association purchased a concert grand piano. The association has presented its program every year since 1953, bringing from four to six different artists/groups to Vernon each winter season.
