Biographical history
The North Pacific Cannery was built in 1889 by the North Pacific Canning Company and was sold in 1891 to Henry Ogle Bell-Irving. In 1892, operations were taken over by the Anglo-British Columbia Packing Company. At its peak, North Pacific Cannery had four canning lines. A reduction plant was installed in 1955. After the 1968 season, salmon processing was halted at the plant, although in 1972, a canning line was restored for a single season. In 1980, British Columbia Packers Ltd. purchased the plant. Thereafter it continued to operate as a boat station, repair and maintenance facility, and in the production of fish meal and oil. The plant was closed in 1981.
