North Vancouver Museum and Archives
The North Vancouver Museum and Archives has been in operation since 1971. It was an agency solely of the City of North Vancouver until 1996, when the District of North Vancouver joined the City as an equal partner in the funding and operation of the NVMA. It is governed by a Commission with representation from both municipalities. The Museum and Archives shared space at Presentation House in the City of North Vancouver until May 2006, when the Archives moved to its present location at Lynn Valley in the District of North Vancouver.
The NVMA acquires the records of organizations and individuals whose activities document the historical, social, economic, political and cultural development of the communities of North Vancouver. These include significant administrative and operational records of both the City, and the District of North Vancouver. In addition to extensive textual records, the holding include photographs, maps, architectural plans, and some sound and moving image materials. Major collections include those of Walter M. Draycott and the Versatile Pacific Shipyards.
