        History

        The City of Richmond was first incorporated as the Corporation of the Township of Richmond on November 10, 1879, with letters patent being issued on that date in response to a petition signed by 25 settlers. The settlers had petitioned the Lieutenant-Governor in Council on the 3rd of April 1879. The first civic election was held on January 5, 1880 and the first council meeting was held January 12, 1880. New letters patent were issued on December 3, 1990 which officially changed the name to City of Richmond.
