History
On November 9, 1953, a meeting was held to form a Hospital Society for Richmond. Ten names were submitted and the Richmond General Hospital Society was subsequently incorporated on December 5, 1953. After a long period of lobbying and promotion, approval for the construction of a hospital in Richmond was finally given in August of 1960. The Board of Directors manages the property and affairs of the Hospital Society, and has full control of the revenue and expenditures of the hospital. The Board has charge of the management of the hospital, and makes rules and regulations governing its operations. Committees are established to deal with the administration and operation of the hospital. The three Standing Committees are the Executive Committee, the Joint Conference Committee, and the Nominating Committee. Between 1969 and 1984, the Hospital experienced a period of growth involving the development of community services, the education of health- care professionals, and the expansion of the hospital by 47 beds in 1984.
