The Salt Spring Island Farmers' Institute, earlier known as the Islands Farmers' Institute, was established in 1897 as the Islands' Agricultural and Fruit Growers' Association. The latter association succeeded three earlier groups, the Salt Spring Island Horticultural and Fruit Growers Association, the Salt Spring Island Agricultural Association, and the Cowichan, Salt Spring and Chemainus Agricultural Society.
The Islands' Agricultural and Fruit Growers' Association was established on Salt Spring Island in 1897. The activities of the association were later carried on by the Island Farmers' Institute (later called the Salt Spring Island Farmers' Institute).
