History
The Womenʹs Undergraduate Society (W.U.S.) was formed at the birth of U.B.C. to consider and advance the interests of the women students through the promotion of extra‐curricular activities and speakers. All women students were automatically members of the society. The executiveʹs major role was to co‐ordinate the activities of the womenʹs undergraduate societies in the various faculties. The W.U.S. annually organized social activities, especially for the female freshmen (ʺfreshettesʺ) during the first few weeks of classes. In 1958 the W.U.S. regrouped under the new name of Associated Women Students.
