    Administrative history

Arising from an idea conceived by Alfred Rive (B.A. 1927), the Varsity Outdoor Club was established in 1920. The original purpose of the Club was "to arrange outdoor excursions for its members during both the summer and the winter." Over the years the focus of the Club has broadened, as the Club has invested in ski cabins at Whistler and Mount Seymour and provided a wide range of activities including mountaineering and hiking.

    Custodial history

    Scope and content

The fonds consists of logbooks, trip register, meeting minutes, and photograph albums. The logbooks and trip registers chronicle the general activities of the Varsity Outdoor Club and the activities at their various cabin locations, with comments by many who use the facilities. The files on meeting minutes contain not only minutes, but also sometimes copies of the VOCene, the club’s newsletter, or advertisement and informational material related to the organization’s activities. The photograph albums contain black and white as well as colored prints from several decades of the club's existence.
