Biographical history
Alfred Wallace began the building of fishing boats in 1894, incorporating in 1905 in Vancouver as Wallace Shipyards. In 1906, the shipyards were established in North Vancouver. The name of the company was changed to Burrard Dry Dock in 1925. In 1946, it acquired Yarrows Limited of Victoria, and in 1951, Pacific Dry Dock of North Vancouver. The Wallace family sold the company to Cornat Industries in 1972. In 1978, Cornat Industries amalgamated with Versatile Manufacturing and the name of the company was changed to Versatile Corporation. The name Versatile Pacific Shipyards was adopted in 1985. The company ceased operations in 1992.
