Biographical history
W.A Baillie-Grohman was one of the early pioneers in both the Upper and Lower Kootenay. He first arrived in the Kootenay region in 1883. He was the first man to investigate and undertake any works in connection with the reclamation of Kootenay Flats. He wrote "Sport and Life in Western Canada and British Columbia" and owned the first steamboat on Kootenay Lake.

Fonds consists of the textual records of the Baillie-Grohman family. Includes correspondence from Baillie-Grohman and his wife Florence from their homes in
England and Austria to Guy Constable in BC regarding the dyking of the Kootenay River and the reclamation of the Creston Valley, and an order in council about the Baillie-Grohman canal.
