      History

With the incorporation of the municipality in 1912, the creation and collection of corporate records began. In 1979, Rupert Harrison was appointed as the municipality’s first archivist and historian. For the next 19 years, Harrison collected thousands of documents and photographs and recorded many conversations with pioneers. From 1980, the West Vancouver Museum & Historical Society collected archival material from residents, transferring these records to the District in 1994 with the opening of the West Vancouver Museum and Archives in the Gertrude Lawson House.
