Biographical history

William A. Andrews was born in Cranbrook and died in Oliver in 2000. Bill served with the Canadian Army during the Second World War. He moved to Oliver in 1961, where he worked for the fisheries department, patrolling the waterways from Osoyoos to McIntyre Bluff. For many years, he worked for CP Rail (1918-1961) at various points in the Kootenays and Southern Interior, including being a field agent in Oliver until the closing of the CPR station. Bill lived in Osoyoos during the mid-1940’s and became the first station-master and telegrapher in 1945 and chairman of the newly incorporated village of Osoyoos in 1946. He was a member of the Royal Canadian legion, the Masonic Lodge, and Air Cadets. He was survived by his wife Erna and son Robert.
