    Biographical history

Cariboo Radio, CKCQ, began broadcasting in Quesnel on August 28, 1957 with a staff of seven: Jim Ritchie, president; Denny Reid, manager and news announcer; John Boates, sales manager and station opener at 7 a.m.; Bob Leckie, program director; Ron Anderson, announcer; Fred Weber, station Engineer; and Mona Nielsen, bookkeeper. The station was an instant success due to the friendly, chatty attitude of the announcers. They were a welcome change from the slick, impersonal announcers on the large Vancouver stations. CKCQ brought the residents of the Cariboo together with their community service "Message Time" announcements from local residents to friends, family or business clientele living miles from town. The station celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1997, and is still going strong today.
